Convexity and Geodesic Metric Spaces

In this paper, we first present a preliminary study on metric segments and geodesics in metric spaces. Then we recall the concept of d-convexity of sets and functions in the sense of Menger and study some properties of d-convex sets and d-convex functions as well as extreme points and faces of d-convex sets in normed spaces. Finally we study the continuity of d-convex functions in geodesic metr...

Monotonicity and Convexity of Some Functions Associated with Denumerable Markov Chains and Their Applications to Queueing Systems

Motivated by various applications in queueing theory, this paper is devoted to the monotonicity and convexity of some functions associated with discrete-time or continuous-time denumerable Markov chains. For the discrete-time case, conditions for the monotonicity and convexity of the functions are obtained by using the properties of stochastic dominance and monotone matrix. For the continuous-t...

On difference sequence spaces defined by Orlicz functions without convexity

In this paper, we first define spaces of single difference sequences defined by a sequence of Orlicz functions without convexity and investigate their properties. Then we extend this idea to spaces of double sequences and present a new matrix theoretic approach construction of such double sequence spaces.

Characterizing convexity of games using marginal vectors

This paper studies the relation between convexity of TU games and marginal vectors. Shapley (1971) andIchiishi (1981) showed that a game is convex if and only if all marginal vectors are core elements. In Rafels,Ybern (1995) it is shown that if all even marginal vectors are core elements, then all odd marginal vectorsare core elements as well, and vice versa. Hence, if all even or a...
